Bespoke Lifts & Special Projects
At GB Lifts we pride ourselves with the prestigious projects we are requested to become involved from
year to year.
These range from glass panoramic lifts for office atriums where the ‘effect is for the lift car to be
floating up and down within space, to designing lifts to work in existing shafts where the components
of the lift are brought in from various manufacturers to come together as a complete installation through
timely project management.
One current high profile project at a private residence in London reflects the ambition and flexibility
of the GB Lifts team and it’s suppliers:
A shaft was formed between two outside structural walls of a building containing windows. This was then
topped with a glass roof. Our brief was to design, manufacture and install the largest size platform
possible within the available space; keeping the vision of the mechanical parts to a minimum with the
existing windows running through the shaft; to allow for the lift to be used by personnel during private
functions but not be seen in the lift car; to cater for the aesthetic finish of the lift that the client
required.
The lift installed features guides in the corners of the shaft, a bore hole ram, glass door panels printed
with digital imagery in Italy (bought in the United States) then shipped to Germany to be made up and tested
with the door gear; Priva-Lite glass in the lift car that changes from transparent to opaque at the flick
of a switch... to name but a few items. Even the lifting beam was coated in chrome to allow as much light as possible
to circulate through the shaft.
A work of art.
